Ella Jo performed some of her songs at Luton Aid, a day of music at the Hat Factory Arts Centre in Luton on 21st August 2010 to benefit the Keech Cottage Hospice charity . Beginning her music career as a busker, she played various subways in Nottingham and around Devon, she says to help to pay the bills. Her meeting with sound engineer and musician Steve Spon in 1994 spawned a five year project which enabled her to record most of her material - she has made three albums to date. Amarylis is the first song on her album 'Limits of Milkweed' - a song concieved by past writing partner Terry Bartlett from around 1993, which she adapted and sculpted into it's present form. The album version features Felicity Nihil on Violin and exudes a flamboyant exuberance, betraying the seriousness of the lyrics, which was a technique used occasionally in earlier writing. After watching this video Ella Jo laughed at the last shot of her checking her watch. She said, 'I had played at the Luton Fringe festival a couple of weeks before and over ran by ten minutes, I can't judge the time when I am on stage and realized I would have to get in check. The funny thing is I saw Michael Hutchins look at his watch when In Excess played one year in Ireland and it really put me off them - it looks so bad, and there I am doing it myself!'
