MEET MIKE Dance transcends all mediums of communication and expression and touches the tear ducts of the human heart. Mike Tyus has been at the heart of dance all around the world. From Los Angeles's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the gutters of South African poverty, the streets of Istanbul, Turkey, The Fringe Festival of Edinburgh, Scotland, the stages of Columbia University in New York, and the home of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Mike has taught, performed, and brought new hope and excitement into audiences and students of all ages and backgrounds. Trained in Stylized Jazz, Contemporary, and Hip Hop with a growing foundation in Ballet techniques, Bikram Yoga,acrobatics, and Character movement. Mike has studied with such teachers as Mandy Moore, Tabitha and Napoleon, Sonya Tajeh, Mia Michaels, and Wade Robson. Mike has appeared on the hit TV shows, Rachel Ray, Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Star Search, So You Think You Can Dance, and PBS's Spotlight Awards winning Grand prize. His growing performing arts company, Urban Poets (ft. Phillip Attmore and Kathryn McCormick of SYTYCD Season 6), in Los Angeles has toured the world igniting fire in not just artists but world leaders such as George W. Bush Sr., Ben Stein, and Larry King.His latest adventure, performing the Trickster, "A devilish ringleader" (New York Times),and main character and principle dancer for Cirque Du Soleil's "breathtaking and heart stopping" (San Francisco Chronicle) Kooza which is touring the country and soon the world, Mike regularly teaches Cirque company workshops. He has taught master classes at Peridance New York, created and directed dance workshops for troubled youth in East Los Angeles for 4 years, and Co-Directed Circus Juventas of St. Paul, Minnesota's Yu Long Circus Show.
