http://www.wcptv.biz/ The Festival Fringe Edinburgh is the largest arts festivals in the entire globe, taking place every August for three weeks in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital City. Annually, thousands of performances are put on display all over Edinburgh, presenting comedy live shows to suit a multiple number of tastes. Edfringe acts range from well known names to completely unknown live comedy artists who are trying to promote themselves. These shows to watch include; musical theatre, the comedy shows, dance shows in Edinburgh, physical theatre, musicals, operas, exhibitions, music and events in Edinburgh. Edinburgh Attractions The Edinburgh Fringe Festival started in 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up, uninvited to the Edinburgh International Festival. It was then that these performers went ahead anyway performing their comedy in Edinburgh. Every year after that, more performers followed their example where in 1959, the Fringe Society was created in response to the success of the growing trend. The Fringe organization had no organization until students of the University set up a drop in center in 1951 in the YMCA where participating groups could find cheap food and a bed for the night. In 1955, there was an attempt to provide a central booking service. At first, the International Festival did not openly like the introduction of the Fringe Festival Edinburgh. 1959 showed the first signs of an organization with the formation of the Festival Edinburgh Fringe Society. Problems then began for the Edinburgh Comedy Festival when it became too big for students and volunteers to deal with. In 1969, the society became a main body when in 1970, it employed it's first administer, John Mulligan who ran it until 1976. Between 1976 and 1981, the number of individual performers at the event included 494 which made it the biggest arts Edinburgh festival in the world. In 1988, the Fringe Edinburgh shows main base moved to 170 High Street to it's present headquarters on the Royal Mile. Since then, the society has increased it's use of technology using computerised ticketing where it sold tickets online in real time. Today, the Fringe Show in Edinburgh, UK has grown and was the biggest Edinburgh attractions in 2009. There were 34,265 performances of 2,098 different shows in 265 venues. 1.8 million pounds were raised from ticket sales. Currently, there are 12 full time members of staff. Various genres have appeared over the years which have included; music, dance and physical theatre, musicals and opera, children's shows and events and exhibitions. In this video, you can see the Scottish Fringe Sunday, an event which usually takes place every year on the second Sunday of the Fringe although in 2009 and 2010, it didn't occur as it didn't receive any sponsorship for the event so it has been cancelled. The Fringe Sunday is an annual showcase of shows which are performed by the Fringe performers. The public and tourists can enjoy tasters of the shows which take place over six hours attracting an audience of up to 250,000. Another event similar to the Fringe Sunday is the Edinburgh Festivals Cavalcade which includes all of the August Festivals and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, not just the Fringe. It takes place in Holyrood Park, United Kingdom while the tramworks continue although traditionally it takes place in Princes Street. However, a lack of funding has prevented even the Cities best British events from taking place in 2011, a real shame. So far, there are around 265 venues used for the Festival. By 1970, the concept of sharing a venue became popular, as a means of cutting costs. The Assembly rooms is a good venue, the Traverse Theatre was also popular as is the Pleasance, George Square Theatre and Sweet ECA. The Udderbelly is also a good one. The downside of the Fringe is that it's expensive, because of theatre fees which are as high as £824 for a venue of up to 200 people. I made this video in 2007 while enjoying the Fringe Festival 2007. I shot the video using my Hi8 camera following performers from the Royal Mile buskers and also from the free Fringe Sunday event in the Meadows. I edited the video using Sony Vegas.
